Like any other rechargeable product, you need to give it an initial charge of over 24 hours before the first use. I was not able to run down the battery during regular use. The grass cutter attachment is poor, but I use a weed wacker for grass anyway. It’s well balanced and fairly light in weight. My wife uses it, and she likes it.
This replaced a Sears/OSH product which cut grass better, but had shorter battery life and the batteries could not be replaced (I was willing to make a new battery pack, but they were 2/3 C size which were impossible to find). This unit also uses 2/3 C size NiCd. So it may also be a throw-away once the batteries die. I wish they made a unit that used the VersaPak batteries.

Ths is the perfect tool for sculpting your shrubs….not necessarily for small topiary, but it’s good for the amateur gardeners who want to make interesting shapes out of boring shrubs. It will even work to keep the boring ones in shape!
ps: It is hard to find in the stores.

I’ve had several rechargable trimmers before but the problem was always that they weren’t very powerful and the batteries just wore out and stopped taking a charge. They also didn’t run for long, even on a full charge. It’s too early to tell if the battery longevity will be better on this more powerful model but runtime is much better and it IS more powerful. The hedge-dlipper is also a nice addition. I’ve got a lot of Asian Jasmine and the trimmer is great for finish work under bushes where it’s hard to get a full-sized clipper. I have high hopes that this model will improve on the weaknesses of previous models.
