This is a nice idea… but it doesn’t give good temperature readings. Not only is it not really calibrated, but the amount it is wrong varies. After spending a lot of time with it, I would say there are two problems, 1) it isn’t calibrated and apparently the temperature sensors are cheap enough that they vary a lot, 2) the internal heat of the electronics warms the sensor making it more wrong. That last point I am surmising from the fact that a wind on the unit brings it closer in line with actual temperatures. My unit can be anywhere from 1 degree off to about 8 degrees. Normally it is about 4.5 degrees off. In the case of my unit, these temperatures always show hotter than the actual environment. Too bad- it’s a good idea. It may also be that the normal mounting of this unit is too close to the window glass making it even more inaccurate. I did all my tests on an outside table with no direct sunlight right next to a proven digital temperature gauge.
