This is one amazing little webcam for the price. The picture quality is VERY decent with a manual focus lens and the mic is very good. The flip-style base works better than the bases found on more expensive webcams and the tripod socket is EXTREMELY useful. On Windows XP, you just plug it in and it works instantly. For the price, it has better value than fancier cams. This webcam just works!

I was looking for a basic webcam with the option of using standard a tripod-thread mount. I thought this would be an easy thing to find considering the usefulness of such a configuration; most webcams have an obnoxious clip of some kind to supposedly attach to the top of a monitor, none of which works well or lasts very long with normal usage in my experience. On the other hand, there are a plethora of tripod-thread-mount clips, stands, mini-tripods, and assorted hardware to choose from, but when I started looking, I could not with that seemingly ideal option.

I don’t have a need for anything fancier than your basic 640 x 480, 30 fps. I don’t think anything more makes sense and I’m very wary of the major manufacturers’ claims for the higher quality and resolution; once you start adding resolution, the increases in bandwidth place too great a demand on the streaming abilities of the pipeline, any internet-based software service, whether it’s Skype, MSN, or any other camera-based web service (although I’m a windoze user, apple’s ichat is the only solution I’ve seen which seems to really work well).

This camera fits all of my requirements. Although it came with a pretty standard lame clip attached, the included tripod-thread alternate base snapped on easily and holds it securely enough for any practical webcam use. The included software is small, well-designed, installs easily and works well even with vista. The no-software-required webcams I’ve tried were all pretty much useless; it’s necessary to be able to adjust for different conditions. I must say, however that the auto-white balance, low light boost, and color boost checkboxes have me stumped; I can’t tell the difference or what direct effect these have- they are always auto. It would be nice to be able to turn these off. The automatic settings for exposure and gain, however, can be effectively turned off and adjusted, but since you’re still battling the auto white balance and low light boost features, it’s only partially helpful.

This webcam is more useful and beter designed than any other I’ve used, including some costing much more. Highly recommended.

This product does not work with windows 7, the driver package will not install and logitech does not support this device. I really thought we were beyond the days of lame excuses for developers, but apparently we are not. If you own Windows 7, DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.

Very few webcams work on IMAC……This one works without any problem, although picture quality is just o.k. It overrides the built-in cam on the IMAC when it is plugged in.
